Rigathi Gachagua Comes Clean On Why Matiang’i, Magoha Did Not Make It To Ruto’s Cabinet

Date:

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has defended President William Ruto’s decision to appoint politicians to cabinet positions instead of technocrats.

In an interview with Citizen TV, Gachagua said that the appointed persons are the best brains and people who understand the public unlike what was witnessed during the era of Cabinet secretaries like Fred Matiang’i, George Magoha, Farida Karoney among others.

“We got where we are today, this crisis in Kenya because the cabinet secretaries then did not understand the people, they had no regard for the people, they never listened to the people nor cared what the people were saying. That is why CBC was implemented without public participation.

“That is why we have established a task force now to listen to the people. If we had a minister of education who deals with the people, we would not be where we are. If we had a minister of interior who was elected, nobody would have torched the goods of the people in Nyamakima. If we had a minister of land who deals with the people, understands the people, our people in Kariobangi would not have been evicted at night in the middle of Covid,” he said.

According to him, the president wanted a team that revolves around the people. He further defended the appointment of Mitika Linturi(Agriculture) and Aisha Jumwa(Public service) who have active court cases.

“All these charges were fabricated, they were weaponized interventions against people who took a certain position in politics,” the DP said.

Gachagua added that they can not disqualify the controversial appointees because they have not been proven guilty in accordance with the law.. He said that disqualifying them would be acting unfairly towards them and denying them chance to lead contrary to the constitution. Asked on where that places chapter 6 of the constitution, he said, “The constitution is Supreme. The constitution says, where a certain chapter conflicts with the constitution, the constitution prevails.”
