CA Bans Pastor Ng’ang’a’s Sasa TV From Live Broadcasting For 6 Months

Date:

Sasa TV has been directed to suspend live programming for six months following controversial remarks that were made by pastor Ng’ang’a.

The Communication Authority of Kenya has asked the Neno Evangelism Center that runs the TV station to stop live broadcasting with immediate effect after investigations established that  content aired during the watershed period on October 3 was inappropriate

“The Communications Authority of Kenya has directed M/S Neno Evangelism Centre, a broadcaster operating as SASA TV, to stop airing live programming with immediate effect. This directive shall be observed for a period of six months,” CA said in a statement.

According to CA, investigations established that the TV stations violated provisions of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, Broadcasting Regulations, 2009, the Programming Code, and Broadcasting License Conditions.

CA further directed Sasa TV to ensure that their employees undergo mandatory training on appropriate operations of the Profanity Delay Mechanism system, management of live broadcasts, broadcasting legal framework, consumer protection, and complaints handling.

“Saasa Tv has further been directed to ensure it has adequate and qualified personnel duly accredited by the Media Council of Kenya,” the Authority directed.

“The station has also been ordered to develop and implement adequate internal controls to ensure compliance with broadcast content standards,” the statement further read.

CA warned that the station will be punished if it fails to adhere to the directives issued while urging licensed broadcasters to fully comply with broadcasting standards.

“Non-adherence to these directives may attract further sanctions including revocation of SASA TV’s license. The Authority urges all licensed broadcasters to ensure full compliance to broadcasting standards set out in the various provisions of the law,” CA said.

This comes after the Media Councilof Kenya warned the station that it will be punished after Ng’ang’a was on October 9 aired saying that his private parts should not be touched by nurses when he dies .
