Ataionea Viusasa! Why Bahati’s Hope To Become The Next Mathare MP Might Just Be A Daytime Dream

Date:

Artist Kevin Kioko popularly known as Bahati joins the long list of entertainers that have set their eyes on various seats in the coming general elections.

Bahati has officially launched his bid for the Mathare Constituency parliamentary seat. Mtoto wa mama, as he is commonly referred to, will be vying under a jubilee ticket in case he wins the party’s nominations.

“Mimi Mtoto Wa Mathare… I am a proud member of the Jubilee Party and the Azimio Movement. I am accepting the call to vie for this seat,” Bahati addressed the press while at the Jubilee Headquarters.

Bahati claimed that the Mathare people have been calling upon him to represent them in parliament and the time has come for him to heed to their call, him being a son of the soil.

“You know the Mathare people sent me out there as an artist after they had supported me and for real, I have also heard their cry. For the last three decades we have not had a leader who is born and raised in Mathare and I want to officially say and officially accept that calling and say that I will vie as the MP  for Mathare constituency with the Jubilee ticket,” the Wanani hitmaker said.

His journey in politics might however be cut short because Bahati is not known to be a holder of any Bachelor’s degree. According to a netizen, Bahati did not proceed to any tertiary institution after completing his high school.

“We know it won’t go through because he has no DEGREE …those are legal processes fundamental frameworks for mp…unless aendee mca,” a netizen said.

According to his Biography, the 29-year old completed his form four at  St Theresa’s Boys in Eastleigh, where he attained a C+ in KCSE 2011. He then joined the music industry in 2012.

Last month however, IEBC said that those intending to vie for MP seats must have a degree even though the requirement had been scrapped in October 2021.

“Unless declared unconstitutional by the Court, the degree requirement for Members of Parliament is in force and is trite law,” IEBC chief executive Marjan Hussein said in a letter addressed to UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina.

Bahati’s frenemy Willy Paul had previously expressed intentions of going for the same seat in this years general elections
