Assistant County Commissioner Arrested For Stealing Food Worth Ksh500,000

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested an Assistant County Commissioner on allegations of stealing food valued at Ksh550,200.

Teddy Buya Bonaya, Assistant County Commissioner 1, Ganze Sub-County, in Kilifi County,  was arrested after reports linked him to the loot.

EACC explained that the suspect allegedly stole the food which was supposed to benefit Tana River residents and sold it.

An Assistant County Commissioner arrested by EACC officers on Wednesday, January 30, 2024.

Tana River residents were among thousands who were displaced following the heavy rains in December.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Thursday, February 1.

“The Commission has this morning arrested one Teddy Buya Bonaya, Assistant County Commissioner 1, Ganze Sub-County, in Kilifi County, who stole and sold relief food valued at Ksh550,200 meant for needy residents in Tana North Sub-County within Tana-River County. He will be arraigned tomorrow,” EACC announced.
