Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has disclosed why she will not be vying for the presidential post in the 2022 general elections.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Waiguru said she will not be going for the position because she does not have enough funds for the presidential campaigns.
According to the governor, for one to successfully campaign for the position, he/she will require to have Kshs5 billion.
“I am not standing for the presidency because I don’t have Ksh.5 billion. You know you need time and I don’t want to waste people’s time,” Waiguru said.
She however hinted that she might be going for the government’s top seat in the 2027 general elections.
“It will depend on what the ground is saying. I will probably give a shot at the presidency or deputy after finishing my second term as governor,” Waiguru noted.
The incumbent claimed that most of the people want to vie for presidency but in real sense they want to be deputy president or Nairobi governor.
Meanwhile, as Mashujaa Day is fast approaching, Waigiru claimed that she had been sidelined in the preparations by the Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho.
“I have not had a say on who is going to be at the stadium, PS Kibicho has not allowed me to have a say in that matter,” Waiguru complained.
She said that out of the 3000 guests invited to the Wednesday October 20 occasion, only 150 invitation cards were issued to her county but she has not been given an invitation card.
“I am not extremely comfortable. I am not naïve, but I want to believe the people will be mature and civil,” she said.
Kibicho however refuted Waigur’s claims saying that her county had been allocated 300 cards and not 150 as she claimed.
He further urged Waiguru to stop politicizing Mashujaa Day Celebrations that will be held at Wang’uru stadium in Kirinyaga county.
