Latest opinion poll in Mombasa indicates that former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is the most preferred candidate in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
According to the opinion polls by Radio Africa Limited Polls, Sonko, who will be vying for the seat under a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket, is leading at 45.6%. He is followed distantly by ODM candidate Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir who garnered 31.5%
UDA candidate Hassan Omar comes third with 12.1%. 0.7% of the opinion poll participants preferred other candidates while 5.4% were undecided. 4.7% said that they will not participate in the voting exercise.

A number of netizens have however found it difficult to believe that Sonko is leading the race with some suggesting that he might have used money to get the figures.
They said that the opinion polls were fake as Sonko can not make it as Mombasa governor following his unceremonious impeachment as Nairobi governor in December 2020.
“Obviously this is a lie, how can people be convinced to vote for Sonko,” Dan Rono said.
“Parliamentary business showed that Omar and Abdulswamad are better leaders. It seems Sonko’s liberal use of money gives him success,” J.K’s tweet read.
“After kalonzo bolt out in azimio na bado unasema sonko Ako juu? Coast trust Raila than Kalonzo,” Hamza said.
Others however believe that Sonko could actually beat his competitors in the contest and can even win anywhere he decides to vie.
“Do you stay in Mombasa? Have you mingled the mwananchi in Mombasa lately? Let me tell you now without any doubt, if Sonko will be cleared to be on the ticket, he’ll win with a landslide,” a twitter user said.
“@MikeSonkois a game changer. For Mombasa he’ll definitely win. After Mombasa, Kwale, after Kwale Machakos, After Machakos Kilifi, hata Vihiga he’ll still be voted in,” Seddy Moses said.
