An aspirant in Funyula constituency, Busia County, has left many social media users speechless with his campaign poster.
In the campaign poster, the aspirant has donned the photo with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) colors, together with the party’s wheelbarrow logo, but he has also disclaimer with a line that read “BUT I WILL STILL SUPPORT RAILA’.
This is one of its kind – especially in the Kenyan political landscape since that kind of campaign is going to raise a lot of questions. UDA is a political party that is associated with Deputy President Dr. William Ruto, whereas Raila Odinga is a sworn political enemy of the former. It is going to be seen how the Funyula Constituency aspirant is going to mix the two political heavyweights – and still get his political arithmetic right.
Mr. Eugene Wandera Masombo is going for his third stab at constituency politics in the next general election of 2022. The first time Mr. Wandera’s name was in the ballot box was in 2013 when he was defeated by ODM’s Paul Otuoma.
In the 2017 general elections, again the aspirant ran on Ford Kenya ticket but was this time round floored by ODM’s Wilberforce Ojiambo Oundo, who is the current Member of Parliament for Funyula constituency.
When contacted for clarification, Mr. Wandera distanced himself from the poster, terming it as fake -and something that has been fabricated by his political enemies as a wider plot to defeat him in the next general election.
Of course, as expected, no politician would ever want to be associated with two major political entities; that would mean that the politician would lose massively. But again, there is no politician who would want to look like he, or she, is weighing between two options. That would only suggest that the aspirant is not a good decision-maker.
Mr. Wandera had however clarified that he is in UDA to stay, and not ODM.
