AFC Leopards’ Winger Hansel Ochieng Quits, Cites Lack Of Play Time

Date:

AFC Leopards’ winger Hansel Ochieng is leaving after playing for the club for the last two years and declining an extension of his contract.

Ochieng’s’ contract expired in the recently concluded season.

Some of the reasons he cited as to why he is leaving the club include lack of time to play, being fielded out of position and financial instability at AFC.

The 24-year-old who formerly played for Nzoia Sugar is now weighing on four FKF Premier League clubs that have expressed interest on him.

“I feel that without enough playtime I’m unable to achieve my expectations and so I have to move on. I have also been fielded as a right winger as opposed to what I prefer, which is to play as a striker,” Ochieng said.

The footballer has been mostly used as a substitute player under head coach Patrick Aussems, scored his only goal at AFC in the match against Nairobi City Stars at the Kasarani Annex in March this year.

Ochieng who wished the club good luck in their future endeavors added that he felt Leopards should have won at least one title last season but bad luck stood in their way.

“AFC (Leopards) is a big team but unfortunately we were not lucky to win any trophy last season despite reaching the FKF Cup finals and finishing fourth behind champions Tusker, KCB and Bandari in the league,” Ochieng’ said.

“Having said that, I must note that we really put in our all and even that position will confirm that because if we compared to those teams who finished above us with us, we were the team that had no financial stamina to motivate players,” he added.
