Shock As A Nine-Year-Old Among The Girls Impregnated In Murang’a

Date:

A nine-year-old girl is among the thousand teenagers impregnated in Murang’ a County.

Murang’ a Women Representative Sabina Chege said the young girl came from Ithaga, lower Gatanga – the same area that has registered the highest number of teen pregnancies.

According to Chege, the trend in which young girls were getting pregnant was worrying and there was a need for fast action.

“If we have children as young as nine years bearing children what will their future be like?” she posed.

Chege said she sought partnership with Fida to help the victims in seeking legal redress over sexual assault.

“We are going to ensure that every defilement case reported is taken to court and we follow it up to the conclusion for the victim to get justice,” the legislature said.

According to Chege, the future of many young girls hangs in the balance if stern action is not taken to cushion them from the sex predators.

Chege said the teen mothers ought to be allowed back to school for them to continue with their education and provide them with a chance to reshape their future.

She also proposed for an establishment of rescue centers for the young moms who are ejected in their homes. Sabina Chege said she would establish a foundation that will sponsor some girls to get back to school.

At the same time, Ahadi Kenya Trust boss Dr. Stanley Kamau also hit back at some leaders who are disputing the teenage pregnancy figures accusing them of being insincere.

According to Kamau he did not and had no reason to cook the pregnancy figures but just gave a true reflection of what was happening within the community.

“Someone sent me on a fact-finding mission and its the same person I report back to. If anybody feels I am not telling the truth, they should do a thorough survey and prove me wrong,” Dr. Kamau said.

Murang’ a County Commissioner Mohammed Bare had earlier claimed that the teenage pregnancy numbers had been inflated and they were only 300 pregnancy case in the county.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome also disputed the number claiming that her constituency was placed on a bad light.
