10 Confirmed Dead in Salama Accident and Bus Full of Students Overturns

April 1, started on a bad note after 10 people were confirmed dead following a tragic accident along the Mombasa- Nairobi Highway.

The accident involved five vehicles at Salama along that busy highway on Monday night April 1.

The cars which were involved in the tragic accident included an 18-seater matatu, a 14-seater matatu, two trucks and a saloon car.

According to Mukaa Sub-county Police Commander Barnabas Ng’eno, the vehicles were traveling through Mlima Kiu area before the accident occurred.

“It happened that the motor vehicle registration number KBC 564M was being driven from Nairobi general direction and on reaching the accident site the driver failed to keep to his proper lane and also made a sudden right turn without due care and attention resulting in a head-on collision with motor vehicle registration number KDK 259U,” the police report stated.

The impact of the collision resulted in multiple crashes. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Elsewhere, one student from Chavakali Boys High School was reported dead and several others were injured after a bus accident at Maboleo, Kisumu County.

The students were heading home aboard an Easy Coach bus when it overturned at the Mamboleo junction on Monday, 9.00 pm.

Three students sustained severe injuries and are currently admitted at Avenue Hospital, Kisumu while 30 others are undergoing treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

“A bus with students from Chavakali Boys High school heading to Nairobi has been involved in an accident at Coptic Round About, Kisumu. Our Paramedics have so far rescued 10 who are seriously injured and rushed them to JOOTRH Kisumu,” St Johns Ambulance stated.
