Kindiki Takes Action After Heckling at Ruto Events

Date:

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has taken action over incidences of heckling at President William Ruto’s events.

The incidents have forced CS Kindiki to convene an early morning meeting with the Kericho County Security and Intelligence Committee led by County Commissioner Gabriel Kitiyo.

During the meeting, the CS directed the law enforcement officers to investigate, arrest and prosecute those causing mayhem at political parties.

He further asked them to investigate and also bring to book those sponsoring chaos at political events.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki meeting Kericho police bosses on Monday March 18, 2024.

“The security team is also tasked to reign in on incidents of disorderly conduct in political meetings, conclude investigations and apprehend the organisers, financiers and perpetrators of hooliganism in the County, regardless of their political or social standing,” Kindiki directed.

This comes after President Ruto encountered a hostile crowd twice during his tour in the Rift Valley region.

In the first incident, Kericho residents booed Governor Erick Mutai. President Ruto was forced to intervene as he called for tolerance to allow the Governor to address the crowd.

In the second incident, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok was heckled by the public which made Ruto lose his cool.

The President while addressing a rally, called for order and restraint as he lectured the residents for booing the county boss in his presence.

Ruto then stepped in, attempting to calm the unruly residents who continued their heckling, urging them to be patient and utilize their power at the ballot during the next election in a bid to hold non-performing leaders accountable.
