Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is in the final stretch in the fight that will most likely go down as arguably the biggest fight in her political career.
The governor was impeached by 23 of the 33 Kirinyaga MCA’s in her county earlier this month. This followed months of antics and politicking that had been emanating from the county.
Now after all those shenanigans Waiguru will finally have her day in court…ah in the senate where she will protest her case in front of a list of 11 senators, today.
The case will begin with lawyers representing Kirinyaga county Assembly being the first to present their evidence to the select 11-member committee chaired by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala.
The lawyers will defend the decision by the MCA’s to impeach over allegations that she had abused her office and also gross misconduct.

One of the accusations against the governor is that she illegally conferred a benefit of KSh 10 million to herself for travel allowance.
Waiguru herself will appear before the senators tomorrow with information emerging that her defence team will bed led by her husband Kamotho Waiganjo.
Waiganjo has already submitted a library of documents that are contained in 40 cartons to the clerk of the Senate. Waiguru confirmed the same on her Twitter handle.
In compliance with the Senate’s request I have today filed my responses to the impeachment motion filed for my removal from office by the Kirinyaga County Assembly. May Truth, Justice & the rule of Law prevail. pic.twitter.com/YP0GzcXRpB

This isn’t the first time that Waiguru has faced accusations of misconduct while in office. In 2015, Waiguru resigned as Devolution CS due to massive corruption allegations in the National Youth Service (NYS).
