Police Recover Ksh9 Million From Quickmart Heist, Arrest Taxi Driver

Detectives have arrested a taxi driver believed to have been part of the suspects who collaborated with Wells Fargo employees to steal Ksh94 million from Quickmart that was supposed to be delivered to a local bank in Nairobi Central Business District.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday, November 11 in the Ruiru area.

He was arrested after police raided his house in the Kamakis area in Ruiru where the detectives recovered the car that was captured on CCTV being driven away after the heist in South C.

The detectives reportedly found the car’s colour being altered to conceal its identity during the raid.

During this operation, the police successfully recovered Ksh9.1 million from the total amount of Ksh94 million that had been stolen.

Moreover, a significant development in the case occurred when an empty cash box was discovered.

Moreover, a significant development in the case occurred when an empty cash box was discovered in the forest adjacent to the Gataka market in Karen. This location is believed to be where the stolen cash was shared among the suspects.

“All the scenes have been processed by the Crime Scene and Investigation (CSI) Nairobi Region,” read part of the police report.

Investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining cash and arrest other suspects behind the heist.

Quickmart had earlier issued a statement indicating that the heist had not affected their operations.

The retailer assured its stakeholders that it had insured its operations against such losses.

“Quickmart Supermarket, as a reputable homegrown company, insurers it’s finances against such incidents. We would like to ensure that all relevant relations that this occurrence will not disrupt our daily operations,” Quickmart’s statement read in part.
