Raila Sets Record Straight on Quitting Active Politics

Date:

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Sunday, September 24, insisted that it was yet time to quit active politics.

Speaking in Bondo, Raila indicated that he had been under pressure from a section of political players to quit active politics.

However, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader indicated that he would decide when the time was ripe.

The Azimio la Umoja leader assured his supporters that even though the journey had been long and tedious, there was hope at the end of the tunnel, and they would soon achieve their ultimate goal.

He clarified that he has been silent to pave the way for a smooth process of the ongoing bi-partisan talks, saying that he had chosen to give the bi-partisan team ample time to conclude their deliberations uninterrupted.

Odinga stated that he will give direction once the bi-partisan talks are concluded adding that they shall decide whether to return to the streets or not, depending on the outcome of the dialogue.

“People have been asking why I’ve been silent, but I want to tell the people of Kenya that my hands are tied. I want to give the team ample time to address the issues tabled,” he stated.

Governor James Orengo, on the other hand, took a swipe at those plotting to succeed Raila as the Luo kingpin and said it was demeaning to reduce Raila to a tribal chief.
