President William Samoei Ruto might actually break the record by being the first Kenyan head of state to rule for one term.
William Ruto while campaigning prior to the 9th August general elections urged Kenyans to elect him so that he would miraculously reduce the high cost of living that the handshake regime brought about.
In fact, the deputy president (then) rejected the global factors such as Russian Ukraine war, the covid-19 pandemic, and the general increase in prices of the oil market. With the same reasoning, Ruto made Kenyans believe that Uhuru and Raila were to be blamed for their sufferings and not any other external global factors that the duo tried to tell Kenyans.
Consequently, millions of hustlers were very happy. Even most Azimio supporters on several occasions consoled themselves that “uzuri ata baba akishindwa Hustler atafanya life ikuwe rahisi sana kama Kibaki (that even if Raila loses election Ruto will still be a better option since he will make life very easy to match the Kibaki era).
However, nothing has changed to the advantage of netizens ever since President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua were elected to office.
In fact, life has become more difficult compared to the previous regimes of president Uhuru, president Kibaki, president Moi and President Jomo Kenyatta.
A spot check by Sonkonews across the country reveal an upward trend in prices of basic commodities such as sugar, unga, fuel, bathing soap, washing soap, salt just to name but a few.
As a result, president Ruto may be the first president in the history of Kenya to rule for one term if he does not turn around the economy and reduce the cost of living like he promised in his many political rallies.
Besides, Kenyans don’t forgive at the ballot, and they may just pour their anger on Ruto in 2027 for promising too much and only delivering perhaps 20% of the promises. Put in another way, the president has no option but to make life affordable to Kenyans if he wants to be considered in any future election.
