Outgoing Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala is accusing governor Wycliffe Oparanya of plotting to rig gubernatorial elections.
Speaking to the press, Malala said that the outgoing governor is meeting with IEBC officials who served as Polling Officers in the August 9 general elections in a bid to convince them to rig in favor ODM gubernatorial candidate Fernandes Barasa.
Malala however assured his supporters that they have put strategies in place to block any rigging attempts while warning those who are part of the scheme.
“As you know, on August 29 we have an election, but I would like to tell our followers that we are prepared and that they should not be worried. We urge them to turn up in large numbers and vote. We have enough strategies to protect our votes. There are those who think our votes might be stolen, I want to assure them no single vote will be stolen
“There are POs and clerks that Hon Oparanya hasbeen meeting with every time to convince them to rig in favor of his candidate. We will put tough measures in every polling station, ” he said.
An IEBC official in Kakamega County confirmed that there have been claims of people meeting with the election officials.
He however said that those who served as POs in the August 9 general elections might not be on duty on August 29.
“I am also wondering why they are meeting those POs because there is no contract between us and them indicating that they are the ones who will serve as POs in the coming election. I can assure you that there will be many changes. Those who were clerks might find themselves as POs,” the official said.
