Raila Odinga’s chief agent Saitabao Kanchory expressed gratitude to Elgeyo Marakwet senator and William Ruto’s ally Kipchumba Murkomen for helping him when chaos erupted at Bomas of Kenya.
According to him, Murkomen shielded him from angry UDA supporters as well as police who were ready to attack him. He noted that the senator risked his life at the same time for his sake.
“It’ll be unfair & ungrateful of me not to thank @kipmurkomenfor shielding me from the marauding UDA mobs & even some clearly partisan cops baying for my blood @ Bomas today. Thank you Sen. Murkomen. You put your safety in jeopardy for my sake. Political difference is not enmity,” Raila’s agent said in a tweet.
A chaotic scene was witnessed at Bomas of Kenya, the moment IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati made his first appearance in a bid to announce the winner of the presidential race following the general elections that were conducted on Tuesday August 9.
While Chebukati was making his way into Bomas, four IEBC commissioners, led by the commission’s vice chair, were releasing a statement at Serena Hotel, where they distanced themselves from the results that Chebukati was going to announce on Monday evening.
Chebukati was attacked with a section of Azimio leaders blocking him from announcing results. The IEBC chairman was assaulted with gadgets and all manner of things thrown at him. Anti-riot police however swung in action and shielded him before whisking him away as the police worked to restore calmness.
