Regrets Loading? Nakuru Residents To Pay The Bitter Price Of Voting In Susan Kihika As Governor

Date:

Matatus are reportedly back in Nakuru town CBD barely days after senator Susan Kihika was announced the winner of Nakuru gubernatorial race.

The senator emerged victorious after garnering 440,707 votes against governor Lee Kinyanjui’s 225,623.

The incumbent  banned matatus from the CBD in September 2020 in a bid to decongest the town. The move was first taken as a covid containment measure before the matatus were permanently banned from the CBD.

His administration went ahead and set up three terminus outside town where matatus have been operating since their eviction from CBD.

In her campaigns, Kihika had however promised to return matatus in the CBD if elected governor.

“I understand the challenges that the eviction has caused to the sector and the businesses that depended on the terminus. Once elected, I will ensure matatus return to town,”  she said in the past.

The return of matatu is however expected to throw Nakuru back into total chaos and bad shape. Here is how Kenyans have reacted to the issue.

“The chaos about to be witnessed in that small town. Nakuru CBD is very small and won’t be able to handle matatus. The muggings about to hit that centre, problem with Kenyans is we fail to reason beyond our immediate needs,” a netizen said.

“Visited Nakuru without the matatus in CBD and there is no traffic at all. Clean and safe for walking. This will be chaos like Nairobi,” another said.
