The Caroline Mutoko Effect: Another Expressway Accident Hours After The Presenter’s Hard Hitting Facts

Date:

Hours after Caroline Mutoko gave her reasons why Personal Service Vehicles(PSVs) should not be allowed on the Nairobi expressway after the Mlolongo toll station accident, another accident occurred on the expressway on Wednesday morning.

A super metro bus  reportedly overturned at the entrance of the expressway after hitting the guard rail while avoiding hitting another vehicle that was on the route. The incident caused a huge snarl up along Waiyaki way.

A number of passengers were injured in the morning accident and were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

The accident comes barely two days after another minibus caused an accident at Mlolongo, hitting a personal vehicle that was waiting for clearance at the toll station.

The recent Mlolongo incident irked radio Mutoko who wondered why matatus are using the expressway.

“Wait, we now have matatus on the Expressway? Courting trouble…” Mutoko’s controversial comment read

Her comment did not sit well with netizens who accused her of creating a social class division by suggesting that matatus should not be on the expressway.

Mutoko however explained what she meant by her remarks noting that she was talking about the lives of the people because many PSVs are very irresponsible and Nairobi people  in general.

She criticized drivers who were over speeding on the highway yet they are just able to get to their destinations in a short period of time by using a moderate speed and insisted that she won’t back from advocating the banning of PSVs on the expressway until speed governors are put back on them.

According to her, the country is waiting for the worst incident before an action is taken.

“This can not be about the vehicles, it is about the passengers.  I hope somebody today is working on punitive fines for the expressway because we can’t be trusted to behave. As Kenyans we are indisciplined, Nairobians grossly indisciplined on the roads.

“I don’t know how many times Mlolongo is going to be rebuilt and in this country and in this city we are waiting for the day a car will fall from up there, mark my words, when I say we are courting trouble we are, on this expressway, before we wake we would have killed many ” Mutoko boldly remarked.

The first accident on the road occurred on the night of Jun 25 at Mlolongo toll station and it involved multiple vehicles.
