The murder charges against Dennis Karani Gachoki, one of the suspects in the Mirema broad day light shooting, have been dropped.
Karani was set free due to lack of evidence linking him to the May 16 gruesome murder that shocked the nation.
He was believed to be the one who was driving the runaway car that ferried the man who shot Samuel Muvota multiple times, killing him on the spot.
The suspect had been detained for 14 days to allow the prosecution probe his involvement in Muvota’s murder, who is believed to have been running a drink spiking and ATM swapping syndicate.
Investigations into Muvota’s murder revealed that he had employed over 50 women who would carry out the drink spiking job in several clubs and bars. They would then steal from their targets money, ATM cards and other valuables.
It was also reported that he had seven wives who were not aware of his dark side of life.
“The respondent has been cooperative and has given us easy time during the entire period of the investigation,so I’m requesting the miscellaneous file be closed, for we have not found any evidence linking the Mr Gachoki to the murder,” the prosecution told the court.
Despite being cleared of murder charges, Karani still has a case to answer in court and will still remain in custody after he was charged at Makadara Law Courts on Tuesday.
According to a report by The Nation, Karani was charged with felony alongside other individuals who were not in court.
The accused and his accomplices are said to have drugged one Davis Kaikai and stole Kshs564,647 from his different bank accounts as well as his other valuables.
“Based on the remand order by Makadara law court, we are requesting that the accused person remain in custody,” the Investigating officer told the court.
