Agnes Tirop’s husband who is the prime suspect at the center of her wife shocked the netizens after she made one of the most scary confessions.
Apparently, Agnes Tirop’s father had on Tuesday reported that the daughter was missing, something which compelled the security agencies to commence investigations in a bid to trace her whereabouts.
“On Tuesday night Agnes’ father reported her missing at the Iten Police Station. Police immediately commenced investigations to trace her whereabouts.” Said Keiyo North Police boss Tom Makori as reported by a local daily.
“Between eight and 9am the following day, the two families were startled when the athlete’s husband called his parents saying he had committed a heinous crime and sought God’s forgiveness.”
At the time of the unfortunate news, the house in which they lived was locked when family members, police officers and friends rushed to the scene after Rotich gave them a call.
“After breaking into the house, police officers found the body on the floor of the bedroom. It had a stab wound in the neck.” Said Makori.
According to the family members, Agnes and her husband were involved in frequent fights and on many occasions sought arbitration from the family members.
Kenya’s 5,000 meters Tokyo Olympic star Agnes Tirop Jebet was on Wednesday morning found dead after she was stabbed in the abdomen.
The lifeless body of the 25 year old Agnes Tirop was found at her house in Iten area, Elgeyo Marakwet county.
Her death comes a few days after she made history in the world of athletics. On September 12th, Tirop made history in the adizero Road To Records event in Germany.
She slashed 28 seconds from the 19-year-old women-only mark for 10km as she clocked 30:01.
The deceased sped away from compatriot Sheila Chepkirui to break the mark of 30:29 which had been set by Moroccan Asmae Leghzaoui in 2002.
“I’m so happy to have broken the world record. I felt the pace was good. The course was very good, too.” She said afterwards.
While mourning her, the Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen called for quick apprehension of the perpetrators behind her murder.
“Deeply saddened by the news that Agnes Tirop,the international long distance runner was cruelly murdered at her home in Iten,Elgeyo Marakwet County.I hope the police will quickly apprehend the perpetrators. My condolences to the family,colleagues and friends of Ms Tirop.May she RIP.” Wrote senator Murkomen.
President Uhuru Kenyatta also joined Kenya’s athletics fraternity in mourning Olympian Agnes Jebet Tirop who was part of the triumphant Kenyan contingent to this year’s delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she represented the country in the 5,000m race and finished 4th in the final.
“It is unsettling, utterly unfortunate and very sad that we’ve lost a young and promising athlete who, at a young age of 25 years, she had brought our country so much glory through her exploits on the global athletics stage including in this year’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she was part of the Kenyan team in Japan,” the President eulogised.
“I urge our law enforcement agencies led by the National Police Service to track down and apprehend the criminals responsible for the killing of Agnes so that they can face the full force of the law,” the Head of State directed.
