President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted President Yoweri Museveni’s son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Nairobi, a sign that the Kenyan and Ugandan leader have ended their frosty relations.
Kenya and Uganda nearly had a diplomatic tiff in August after the government stopped William Ruto from traveling to Uganda following claims that Museveni was assisting the DP in his 2022 presidential bid.
Kenya silently accused Uganda of interfering in its internal political affairs, a claim which Uganda strongly denied.
Ruto’s ally Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi revealed that the DP wanted to met Museveni’s insiders as he prepares his State House bid in the 2022 General Election.
Ruto was to hold talks with president Museveni as his associates held separate discussions with officials of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Speaking to the press, Sudi said their aim was to borrow political lessons from the NRM, which has ruled Uganda for more than 35 years.
With the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) set to be the DP’s political vehicle in his presidential quest, Sudi said they wanted to learn party management practices from president Museveni’s handlers.
“We’re interested in how Museveni runs NRM, because we want to follow his example when it comes to political parties,” Sudi said.
Sudi said Ruto was determined to hire president Museveni’s chief strategists because next year’s election was a do-or-die game for him.
“Ndindi and I were to meet with Museveni’s advisors. The boss had a meeting planned with the President. There’s nothing we are hiding. We don’t want a party that will die after elections like what happened to Jubilee. We have been going to different countries for this,” said the Kapseret MP.
Museveni’s son was keen to restore good relations between Kenya and Uganda following the drama with Ruto.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba tweeted on August 27th to show President Uhuru support after court stopped BBI reggae.
“Afande Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. President of Kenya and a very great man. No body can stop reggae! God bless him,” Muhoozi tweeted.

General Muhoozi, who is the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations and commander of the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces and Land Forces, was coming from Somalia after visiting military troops that have been mandated by Amisom to keep Al Shabaab at bay.
