Man Admits To Stealing Avocadoes Worth 2,200 In Court

Date:

A man admitted in Kibera court that he stole 74 avocadoes worth Kshs2,200 from a businessman in Dagoreti.

Paul Njau admitted to have stolen avocadoes belonging to Michael Karanja on August 28, 2021 before Kibera senior resident magistrate Renee Kitagwa.

The prosecutor told the court that Njau made his way into a building that was storing the fruits and stashed them into a sack.

The caretaker of the building saw him committing the crime and alerted neighbors.

The suspect was found hiding while in possession of the fruits but could not explain where he had gotten them from.

He was taken to a police station and investigations into the matter were carried out before he was arraigned and charged in court.

The court is set to deliver its judgment on the case on September 9. A pre-bail report will be tabled in court before the verdict is read.

Elsewhere, funeral organizers in Machakos risk jail term in case mourners exceed the approved number of 100.

Speaking to journalist at his Machakos office, the County Police Commander Issa Muhamud asked all mourners to adhere to COVID 19 guidelines and protocols.

“Everyone knows there is COVID and we will charge in court funeral organizers for any burial with mourners beyond 100. The law must be followed,” he noted.

Muhamud further banned mourners from flocking mortuaries to pick bodies of their beloved ones.

“People are gathering in mortuaries with motorcades and causing traffic jam in our roads and COVID-19 transmission risk to others. We agreed that only two vehicles, one hearse and another carrying only five close family members will be allowed in our mortuaries to collect the dead,” the commander said.

In a bid to curb the spread of covid-19, the government announced that only 100 people should attend burial services which should not last long.
