Independent candidate, Sharlet Mariam, has dropped her quest to clinch the Msambweni Constituency seat in the December 15 by-election.
Mariam on Tuesday threw her support behind the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Omar Boga.
According to Mariam, she dropped from the race after conferring with ODM leader, Raila Odinga, who convinced her to support Boga to ensure the opposition party retains the seat that was left vacant after the death of Suleiman Dori.
Mariam found herself in the middle of the Jubilee internal wrangles when Deputy President William Ruto stormed the Pangani headquarters to declare the party’s choice for the by-election.
However, Ruto was outrun by the Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju who publicly declared that Jubilee would not field a candidate in the Msambweni in honor of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

By the time, the Deputy President was arriving at the Pangani headquarters, the decision has already been made and there wasn’t much he could do to overturn his party’s stand.
Previously, Mariam had initially ditched ODM for Jubille hoping she would be the party’s flag-bearer in the by-elections.
