Controversial Jubilee Vice-Chair David Murathe has accused Deputy President William Ruto and his Tanga Tanga brigade of radicalizing Mt Kenya youths in the name of empowering them.
Speaking to a local TV station, Murathe questioned a narrative by the DP that he is empowering the youth and women in Mt. Kenya.
“The only question people are raising is, is it only Mt Kenya that needs harambees? Are Mt Kenya youth the only ones that need empowerment?” he posed during an interview with KTN news.
According to Murathe, Ruto had camped in the region and was not bothered to empower youth in his own backyard.
“When did you last hear the Deputy President going to Eldoret or to Nandi or the larger Rift valley to empower women or deal with boda boda riders from his backyard?” Murathe added.
Murathe accused Ruto of juxtaposing the rich and the poor with his hustler versus dynasties narrative saying the narrative was a remedy of chaos and the re-invention of the outlawed Mungiki outfit.
Of late William, Ruto has come under fire for donating wheelbarrows to the youths across the country saying it was one of the economic empowerment.
Even as critics try to stop him from the donations, Ruto has continued to tour Mt Kenya – a region considered President Kenyatta’s stronghold.
Ruto’s last tour to the region has been marred with violence that led to the death of two people.
Once again, Ruto is expected to tour the region where he will hold a series of meeting in Murang’a, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, and Kirinyaga counties between Frida and Sunday.

Murathe noted that Ruto has been selective in his tours and they were raising concerns since something was peculiar and “Whatever he is doing in Mt Kenya, he should be doing it in the Rift Valley.”
“He is going back to Tharaka Nithi, he was there last weekend, he is going back to Kirinyaga, he was there a week ago, he is going back to Murang’a after people died in Kenol,” he said.
Murathe fired a warning to Ruto, telling him that he is on their watchlist as he dishes out handouts to the youth who need meaningful economic empowerment as factored in the BBI report.
