Murathe Speaks Out Why Uhuru’s Bodyguards Turned Him Away During BBI Launch

Date:

Jubilee Chairperson David Murathe has been forced to elaborate what happen during the BBI Launch in a video which he is seen being turned away by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s security.

In a video which has been making rounds on social media, Murathe who was accompanied by former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth are seen being turned away raising eyebrows among many Kenyans.

Speaking to a local daily, Murathe clarified that the video was taken out of context by his political detractors who claimed that he was chased away from the venue where President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the BBI report.

He explained that the event ushers wanted them to use the VIP entrance because the main entrance was jammed with delegates scrambling to enter.

“Just at that moment, the president entered Bomas and everyone was asked to move from the VIP entrance.

“It was just a security protocol. Once the president arrives no matter who you are, you are required to clear,” the Jubilee boss stated.

Speaking about Deputy President William Ruto’s proposed amendments to the report, he criticised for making submission when the document was already finalised.

“Where was he during Bomas one? The task force received suggestions and went back to the people to ratify the same but even then, he did not bother to give his views,” the Jubilee vice chair stated.

The recommendations proposed in the document touch on the structure of the Executive and Parliament, devolution, representation, health, as well as the economy.

Murathe added that the next step in the BBI process would be the collection of signatures from voters to present to the IEBC.

However, the IEBC would have to be reconstituted before any referendum, the ruling party boss explained.

The document is expected to be drafted into a referendum bill that will be presented to county assemblies for approval.

If passed by at least 24 counties, the document will then be taken to Parliament before being subjected to a referendum.
