9 ODM Nyanza MPs present at State House to meet President Ruto

Date:

The decision is viewed as a part of President Ruto’s plan to challenge Raila Odinga’s rallies.

A group of Nyanza MPs from the ODM Party met with President William Ruto on Tuesday.

The effort is perceived as a pillar of the President’s plan to counter opposition leader Raila Odinga, who is on the offensive and conducting demonstrations to “resist Ruto.

Nine MPs attended the morning meeting, as confirmed to the media by State House communications secretary Emmanuel Talam.

They include Gideon Ochanda (from Bondo), Elisha Odhiambo (from Gem), Mark Nyamita (from Uriri), Caroli Omondi (from Suba South), Shakeel Shabir (from Kisumu East, Independent), Felix Odiwuor (alias Jalang’o) from Lang’ata, Paul Abuor (from Rongo), John Owino (from Awendo), and Kisumu Senator Tom Oji.

The morning meeting was also attended by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

President Ruto stressed the need of leaders cooperating despite political differences in his remarks following the meeting.

As our nation faces challenges, he stated, “leaders must come together, promote harmony, and work together.”

The meeting, according to Ruto, was a sure path to a more united and developed Kenya. He added that leaders must work to set an example for others to follow and serve the interests of the people.

According to Langata Mp. Jalango, he followed up on a number of projects with the president and his deputy.

“Today we had breakfast with the president, I followed up on the Start date of the construction of affordable housing in Highrise ward and the completion of the Langata TVET. The project is on and the contractor is on ground, an extra 50Million has been located for the completion,” Jalas says.

The meeting comes days after the third anti-Ruto rally organized by the opposition’s leader, the ODM Party, took place in Nairobi.

Affirming that the 2022 presidential election was tainted by irregularities, Raila declared during the first rally in Kamukunji last month that he will not recognize President Ruto’s ‘illegitimate’ Presidency and his cabinet.

However, Ruto has said that he won’t be intimidated and that such threats of demonstrations won’t be effective.

“Nothing will stop me from fixing the country,” he said.
