19 Year Old Kenyan Footballer Joins Leicester City

Date:

Kenyan footballer Thomas Silko Amari Otieno has joined Leicester City football club based in the UK.

In a statement dated September 29, the Kenyan sensation confirmed the transfer while donning a Leicester City jersey at the Leicester City FC Training Ground.

“Excited for this new chapter with Leicester City,” Amari wrote.

Before announcing his move, Amari had featured in their Under 21 Premier League Cup match, which unfortunately ended in a 4-3 defeat to Burnley at the Leicester City FC Training Ground.

Before the move to Leicester City whose senior side was relegated from the English Premier League in the 2022- 2023 season, Amari had been without a club.

In the 2022-2023 season, he was at Chelsea where he was released by the club.

The 19-year-old right-winger’s journey in football began when he joined Chelsea as an Under 10 player, where he spent nearly a decade before being deemed surplus to requirements.

In July, the 19-year-old had a brief trial period with Sunderland, but the move to the Black Cats did not materialize.

Amari boasts an impressive youth career, including a Premier League Runner-up medal in 2020/2021, a FA Youth Cup Runner-up in 2019/2020, and a U18 Premier League Cup Winner in 2021/2022.

However, it is not clear whether Amari will choose to play for Harambee Stars in the future or he will settle for England.

His football idols include Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“In football, I have a couple. Ronaldinho is one because of his confidence – there’s nothing better being on the pitch and having the confidence to do certain things in front of a crowd that gets them off their seat. And Cristiano Ronaldo because of his mentality, he always aims to be the best and it shows in his football.

Off the pitch, it would have to be my parents because of how hard they have worked in their lives to do anything they want to do. Whatever they put their mind to, they do it to the best of their ability and I want to be just like them,” he stated during an interview with Chelsea in October 2020.
