US Aviation Bans Planes From Flying Over Biden’s Home For Security Concerns

Date:

US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has put Joe Biden’s home in Delaware under a temporary flight restriction.

FAA has imposed a one nautical mile radius no-fly zone over Biden’s home, meaning pilots have been instructed to avoid flying over the area.

The decision was announced by FAA on November 5th through a Notice to Airmen and listed under special security reasons.

According to the Notice to Airmen, which provides information on temporary changes to the National Airspace System, pilots are not allowed to fly over the area, except in extraordinary circumstances, such as safety and emergency reasons.

The no-fly zone will remain in place until Biden’s win is confirmed and subsequently moves to Washington DC for his swearing-in in January 2021.

FAA usually imposes no-fly zone over homes of US President-elect and their running-mate. In 2016 election, Trump Tower as well as Mike Pence’s Indianapolis home were put under restrictions before they took office.

Similar privileges are also accorded to other presidential challengers, but are immediately withdrawn the moment the presidential winner is declared.

Apart from the no-fly zone, the Secret Service has also sent an extra squad of agents to Biden’s campaign headquarters in Delaware.

The Secret Service, an agency under the Department of Homeland Security, is charged with protecting the president, senior government officials, visiting heads of states and governments.

In election time, the Secret Service is also tasked with protecting both presidential contenders – democrat and republican. The protection usually stops when a contender loses election.

When Biden officially becomes President-elect, his Secret Service protection is expected to ramp up to an even higher level.
