Flamengo defender Gustavo Henrique suffered a horror testicle injury during his side’s 5-1 win over Corinthians.
The defender was taken off in the first half of the match with a bloodied patch spotted on his shorts.
“The athlete Gustavo Henrique went through an evaluation with urologist Paulo Henrique, who recommended three days of rest and therapy with antibiotics,” said a statement from the club.
“He remains under the care of the medical department.”
The 27-year-old center-back who joined the club from Santos earlier this year also gave an update on his condition.
“Good morning nation!!! Stopping by to thank all the messages of support and to say that I am in recovery, looking to return as soon as possible to help the Mengão!!!” the Brazilian posted on his Twitter wall.
“Thank you very much to all. We’re together.”
Following Flamengo’s win over Corinthian at the weekend, the club moved to second place in Brazil’s Seria A, level on point with first-placed Internacional.
