Nakuru-based poet and spoken word artist Willie Oeba has released a hard-hitting single addressed at the Deputy President, William Ruto.
In the October 27 release dubbed Dear Mr Deputy President, Oeba puts the DP to task over campaigns geared towards the 2020 General Elections in the backdrop of unfulfilled promises made during the last elections.
In the sixth single off his yet to be released sophomore album, Oeba addresses the DP’s (in)famous wheelbarrows handouts to the youth, high youth unemployment, the Jubilee government’s failed promises and the ‘hustler’ tag.
In the video, Oeba plays the part of a graduate whose family is thrilled to see him graduate from campus but his papers mean nothing as he’s forced into doing menial jobs to make ends meet. In a cruel turn of events, he’s falsely accused of stealing and is thrown behind bars. Here some of the hard-hitting lines from Dear Mr. Deputy President:
“Wapi stadiums? Ama umeamua kufanya kazi na hutaki mchezo?/
The same students ulipromise paid internships 2017, the same graduates unaoffer wheelbarrow empowerment 2020. Zima hiyo kitu/
Dear Mr. Deputy President, get this clears ma youth hawataki handouts, wanataka wage/
Dear Mr. Deputy President unapata wapi nguvu ya campaign kama bado huja implement half of the promises you made during the previous election?/
So sad, people tasked to deliver then nation wako busy campaigning for the next election/
If the kids ask, nita explain aje DP na msee wa bodaboda are both hustlers?/
The same person talking about dynasties ana spend millions ku brand the same name ‘hustler’/

The spoken word artist honed his craft at Moi University where he organised Sh50 shows alongside other creatives. Two years ago, Oeba proved his talent after beating other contestants to a Sh100, 000 cheque during the BLAZE BYOB Nakuru Summit. Due to his exploits, Oeba caught the attention of Kaka Empire’s King Kaka and they’ve worked together on several projects. Acknowledging Oeba’s talent in May 2020 following the release of Dear Dad, King Kaka referred to him as ‘my favourite poet’ in a tweet. Oeba is known for other socially-conscious releases including Wajinga Nyinyi 4, Dear Mr President and These Girls.
