Otiende Amollo, Three Other MPs Travel To US To Observe Trump’s Election

Date:

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo is among four Kenyan MPS who have left that country to observe elections pitting President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.

Other than Otiende other lawmakers include Jeremiah Kioni(Ndaragwa), Abdi Shurie (Balambala), and Kisumu Senator Fred Outa.

The four legislators are expected to be in the US for around five days, a trip that marks their first since Covid-19 disrupted the international travels.

Otiende who is also the vice-chair of the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee told the Star that the trip was the major reason be was in absentia in the Naivasha meeting that is meant to fine-tune the recommendations of the Building Bridges Initiative report.

The local daily also learned that MP Kioni ( chair of the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee) would not also attend that meeting due to the trip to the US.

“I will not attend the meeting as I have prior commitments,” Kioni told the Star.

Speaking to the daily, National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai said the MPS will join the delegation of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission that will also be traveling to the US to observe the election.

“They have been officially invited along with the IEBC to observe the US elections,” Sialai told the Star.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 4.

Observers have suggested that the coming poll is likely to register more voters as compared to the previous one that had 138 million voters with Reutters suggesting a 65 percent participation rate.

Uncertainties have however rocked the polls with President Trump suggesting that he might accept the result if defeated.

Pollsters suggested that Joe Biden has a commanding national lead over the incumbent.

A good number of US citizens have voted by mail or in-person at places with provisions for early votes as the country still struggles with the rising number of Covid-19.
