ODM leader Raila Odinga has apologized to the people of Mombasa and Kakamega after IEBC postponed their gubernatorial elections twice.
Speaking in a function in Mombasa, where he drummed support for ODM gubernatorial candidate Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Odinga said that the residents of the affected counties were targeted in a plot to block his votes.
“First of all I want to apologize to you Mombasa residents and Kakamega people for what happened. You were conspired against but you are innocent. You were also not the ones who were targeted. Kakamega and Mombasa were targeted because of Baba and Martha. They came with a plan to block several of our votes and that is why they intentionally stopped the Mombasa and Kakamega polls,” Odinga said.
The former prime minister added that he is confident that the truth about Wafula Chebukati’s secret dealings will eventually come out. He claimed that Chebukati colluded with their opponents to rig elections.
“What we have seen with Martha is very dirty and evil and is not supposed to happen in a country like Kenya. But we said we will deal with the big corrupts and big thieves. They conspired to steal long ago. You see the Venezuelans who were arrested, their plan was to rig, but whatever they try the truth will come out,” Odinga said.
He however said that the gubernatorial elections from Mombasa and Kakamega should be overseen by Juliana Cherera, Chebukati’s controversial deputy.
“We want the Kakamega and Mombasa elections to be overseen by IEBC Deputy Chairperson Juliana Cherera. Chebukati as an accused person in our petition should disqualify himself,” Odinga said.
The former prime minister further said that he is the president elect and not William Ruto, therefore the court should announce him as the winner for him to take an oath of office alongside Martha Karua.
The postponed gubernatorial elections will be held on August 29.
