William Ruto, the Deputy President has blocked law scholar Makau Mutua from following him on Twitter. Mutua, a law professor and political analyst, has been one of Ruto’s most vocal and fiercest critics ever since Jubilee Party took over the reins of power in 2013.
Seemingly the DP got tired of the lawyer’s nagging tweets and criticism and decided to block him at night or early morning of Wednesday, April 29, going by the time Mutua reacted. “Deputy President William Ruto has blocked me, I take it as a badge of honour,” tweeted the lawyer.
Mutua has been calling out Ruto over corruption-related issues and urging Kenyans not to let him ascend to power in 2022.
Other than criticising the second in command through social media channels, the Kenyan Human Rights Commission (KHRC) chairman has also been appearing on TV interviews and writing columns on a local newspaper to, among other topical issues, call out corrupt leaders.
Known for his brazen comments, the Sunny School of Law dean has not spared any Kenyan leader whom he considers unfit to hold a political office. After the 2013 General Election, Mutua, who strongly believed ODM leader Raila Odinga won, refused to recognise Uhuru Kenyatta as the country’s president.
This, according to observers, soiled his quest to become Kenya’s Chief Justice despite presenting what was referred to as a “lengthy and impressive CV”.
