Police in Lang’ata Area, Nairobi have launched probe following an incident where the wife of a security officer attached to the Presidential Escort Unit was shot during a bitter argument.
According to a police report, the incident happened after the said officer returned home after spending a day out along Southern Bypass in Nairobi.
Upon returning, a bitter quarrel ensued between the two in the presence of their kids. The exchange escalated prompting the 29-year-old to go into the bedroom and pick the officer’s gun, cocked it and pointed it to herself.
However, a child intervened and as she was closing on the 29-year-old, the gun went off.
“One of the children aged 15yrs and a form two Student at Langata Barracks pleaded with her mother that the issue in question can be solved without causing harm,” the police report read in part.
“The child closed the gap and grabbed the pistol where by one ammunition discharged hitting the mother on the upper side of the chest exiting from the back and the child sustained injuries on her right middle finger. Both were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital,” it added.
Following the incident, the police visited the scene of the crime and recovered pistol loaded with fourteen rounds ammunitions, one in the chamber and thirteen in the magazine,one spent catridge of 9mm recovered at scene and a bullet head also recovered three meters away from the main door and all kept as an exhibits.Case.
“The team also visited the hospital and the victims found to be in fair condition.”
