Why Moneyed Developers Are Rushing to Invest in Kilifi

Date:

Kilifi County is picking up as one of the priciest locations in the country attracting both local and international investors.

Vipingo was the first place in the region to gain pace in terms of development. Affluent developers seeking privacy chose the area due to its location which is a distance from Mombasa which is currently congested.

According to realtors, the expansion of the Mombasa – Malindi Road is one of the factors behind the rapid development in the area.

Besides the infrastructural development, most developers noted that the area is controlled making it ideal for investors to pump their money there.

“Vipingo in itself is actually exploding with life. New commercial and residential opportunities are attracting investors in this area,” one of the investors in Vipingo, stated.

An official from Knight Frank, a wealth company noted that the availability of international schools in the area also drove the land hike.

‘‘The expansion of the road network and the port has equally raised the stakes of real estate in Mombasa City. Kilifi is more lucrative because of its nearness to Kivukoni School,” he stated.

Kivukoni is an international nursery, primary and secondary school that targets wealthy families who do not have to take their children to schools in Mombasa or Nairobi.

Housing policies in the region also drove the development in the area. The area has enacted housing policies that require land buyers to build climate-friendly houses.

Huge residential apartments are not allowed in some of the areas earmarked for development.

Moreover, more Kenyans are rushing to build holiday homes in Kilifi due to its proximity to the Ocean and other beaches. Others are also building hotels and state-of-the-art facilities to attract people seeking exclusive vacation spots.

Top government officials also own modern houses in the region making it ideal for development.
