A section of Jubilee leaders have proposed that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i should replace Deputy President William Ruto.
This comes at a time when the ruling party is preparing for a National Delegates Convention scheduled November 30, whereby the party is expected to make major changes in its leadership structure.
The leaders, mostly drawn from Kisii and Nyamira, said that Matiang’i had shown exemplary leadership especially after President Uhuru Kenyatta added him responsibilities through an executive order.
Led by Kitutu Chache MP Jimmy Angwenyi, the leaders said that they would propose Matiang’i for the position since he is the most suitable candidate.
“We met here to prepare for our NDC and we made a resolution that we have a leader and we support our leader who is Fred Matiang’i,” Angwenyi told the press.
“We are going to request the delegates in that conference to elect one of our own into a seat that will be proposed by one of our delegates on that day,” Angwenyi added
Nyamira Women Rep Jerusa Momanyi called upon Jubilee delegates to support them since Matiang’i is committed to the Jubilee administration.
“We know that there are several resolutions which are going to be taken and as a community. We are ready to take the resolutions to the Jubilee party and again we have identified Fred Matiang’i who we are going to support. He is going to lead us,” Momanyi stated.
The ruling party has however insisted that the leadership changes is not the agenda of their meeting.
This comes days after a list of proposed leaders in the Jubilee leadership structure made rounds in social media.
The list proposed that DP Ruto’s position should be taken by either Nakuru Governor, Lee Kinyanjui, former Eldas Member of Parliament, Adan Keynan, or Samburu County Woman Representative, Maison Leshomo while Nyeri Woman Representative, Priscilla Nyokabi had been proposed to replace Raphael Tuju as the Secretary General.
