What You Did Not Know About The Kisumu Train That Stalled In Muhoroni

Date:

Many passengers using the newly launched Nairobi Kisumu train were left stranded on Tuesday evening after it stalled near Muhoroni, Kisumu county.

Reports reveal that the train left Nairobi city at around 6:00 am in the morning and was supposed to arrive at Kisumu at 6:00 PM. However, sources say that the machine arrived at 10:38 PM.

Apparently, this is the second trip that the Kisumu bound passenger train is making since it was launched a few days ago by the ministry of transport.

The news of the Kisumu bound train stalling was confirmed by the Muhoroni county police commander, Zephaniah Kamuren.

On their side, the stranded passengers who could not stomach the situation took to their social media platforms in a bid to share and air their complaints about the same. They  sent photos of the derailed wagon which was clearly hopeless somewhere in the back.

According to the Kenya railway corporation, the Kisumu bound train experienced some mechanical issues which was attributed to the heavy rainfall around the Muhoroni area.

“We wish to inform the public that the Kisumu bound train encountered a slight hitch occasioned by the heavy rains that earlier pounded the Muhoroni area. The issue has since been sorted out and the train is already on the way to Kisumu,” they stated.

This eventuality led to inconvenience since the train was supposed to make another return journey to Nairobi on Wednesday very early in the morning but it was not confirmed whether it would make it to the city on time.

The Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga said that the poor weather laced with a lot of rainfall around Kibos, Miwani and Muhoroni interfered with the visibility of the train.

He added that 550 passengers had booked the train in Nairobi with 50 more people boarding it on the way around Nakuru, hence totaling 600 passengers.
