Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago is somewhat prophet, his 2018 warning to William Ruto about Raila Odinga has finally come to pass.
Ruto planned to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta using the same political wave that carried them to power in 2013 and 2017, but Mandago warned in 2018 that it would not be possible per se.
Mandago was alarmed by March 15th, 2018 handshake between Raila and Uhuru and warned that Jubilee would not survive.
The Uasin Gishu governor warned that Raila is a sly politicians who had succeeded in wrecking even the most formidable parties like Kanu which ruled Kenya for 37 years.
“Hii mtu anaitwa Raila ni mtu mzuri. Shida ako na tatizo moja, mahali amepitia lazima abomoe. Ulizeni mimi…LDP alimaliza, Ford alisambaratisha, akaingia kwa KANU akakata jogoo kichwa akakimbia nayo. Sasa ameingia Jubilee na atamaliza sisi,” Mandago said.
Jubilee is now a shell of its past and Ruto ultimately decided to form a new outfit United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to pursue his political ambitions.
Ruto now squarely blames Raila for the troubles that befell Jubilee. He claims the ODM boss ruined his relationship with Uhuru.
There have been several efforts to reunite President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy but so far nothing seems to work as it’s now clear the two are irreconcilable.
Uhuru and Ruto’s fallout begun immediately after the 2017 election when the president coined the term ‘tangatanga’ while complaining about his deputy going around the country campaigning when the election was just over.
Things further got complicated on March 15th 2018 when Uhuru and Raila walked out of Harambee House together and shook hands to the surprise of whole country.
With less than a year remaining for Uhuru to retire, pressure has been growing on the two to have talks and end their differences.
This task had been taken up by the clergy who have been engaging Ruto and Uhuru in secret talks to have them unite.
