A section of Ugenya residents have protested the move by MDG party leader David Ochieng’ to ditch Azimio for Kenya Kwanza.
The locals of Sega town brought businesses along Kisumu-Busia road to a standstill on Friday as they faulted Ochieng’s move saying that it was his personal decision and he did not involve them.
One of the residents identified as Onyango Joseph requested for a by-election saying that they no longer recognize Ochieng’ as their MP.
“I was a member of MDG but he has gone to UDA alone and his people, we are now back to Baba, we are now ODM people. I would just request for a by-election so that we can vote in an ODM person,” the local said.
Another local identified as Caroline Aoko said, “We are very angry with David Ochieng’ we want a by-election organized in Sega, we didn’t know he is a mole.”
Many of them expressed their anger against the lawmaker for opposing Raila Odinga, who is deemed the Luo Nyanza kingpin.
Several leaders from Siaya county have also condemned Ochieng’s move. The county’s deputy governor William Oduol accused Ochieng’ of using lies just to win elections.
“He deceived Ugenya people that he was in Azimio in order to get votes after which he has left to join his masters,” Oduol said during a Thanksgiving ceremony at his home in Gem after being sworn in alongside governor-elect James Orengo on Thursday this week.
On the other hand, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo said that MDG and UDM political parties that have roots in Nyanza are sponsored by William Ruto. He however said that MDG is still under Azimio because of the Memorandum of Understanding that they signed and Azimio will still have the majority of members in parliament.
“I can tell him you can buy weak people but God will bring forth strong men and women like Elisha. Ruto can buy whichever people he wants to buy, but you can only buy people with money stolen, you can not buy them with money you have worked for so Kenyans should be aware of what kind of president they want,” Odhiambo said in his speech at Oduol’s home.
Ochieng signed an agreement to be part of Kenya Kwanza on Friday August 26. He was welcomed by Ruto who revealed tat they had been in consultations for a number of weeks.
