Tough Times For Wafula Chebukati As DCI Seeks To Destroy Him Further

Date:

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI)conducted a forensic analysis on the gadgets and items that were confiscated from three Venezuelan nationals who were arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in July.

According to the DCI forensic analysis report dated August 5, DCI recovered 7 items which include, one TB external disc, one laptop, six flash disks, three mobile phones, one Tablet, one Simcard and one monitor.

The exhibits contained “substantial information” held in the IEBC system which was controlled by Smartmatic International and Seamless International, companies that had been contracted by IEBC.

DCI established that the laptop and external disk contained IEBC database schematic diagram, IEBC network diagram, IEBC KIEMS kit, IEBC KIEMS kit deployment list, username and passwords, local IP address configurations and virtual private network (VPN) settings. The flash disk had data related to what was found in the two devices.

Aside from that, DCI established that IEBC’s entire system is managed by Smartmatic  international limited Holding B.V and that one of the Venezuelans, Jose Gregorio Camargo Castellano, was IEBC system administrator.

“He is in a position to remotely access the entire IEBC data and has capacity to add, delete, edit or manipulate in any manner the entire IEBC system,” the report revealed.

It was also established that 21 people, 19 foreigners and 2 Kenyans, had administrative rights in the system.

The other two phones had call logs, family videos and documents that were written in Spanish. The Iphone promax and laptop were highly encrypted and probably used in secured communication.

Following the findings, DCI recommended that IEBC system should undergo an urgent forensic audit to check for ‘exploitative vulnerabilities.’

The Venezuelans, Salvador Javier Suarez, Jose Castellano and Joel Garcia were arrested at JKIA on July 21, but the forensic analysis report was made public recently.

The foreigners were also in possession of stickers that were to be used in the elections. Following their arrest, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati defended them saying that they were employees of Smartmatic.
