Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip blamed the heckling of William Ruto and his brigade on local ODM leadership in Lamu county.
Ruto’s week-long tour of the coast region came to an end on Tuesday October 19th when he visited Lamu county.
The DP has been crisscrossing the Coast region since last week in a bid to persuade resident to back his 2022 presidential bid.
Ruto traversed coastal counties holding rallies that attracted huge crowds at different stopovers during his week-long tour.
However, on Tuesday Ruto’s team faced hostile crowd in Lamu while holding a rally in the ancient coastal town.
A crowd was chanting ODM and Raila slogans during Ruto’s rally in Lamu prompting the county’s senator Anwar Loitiptip to condemn the incident.
Loitiptip blamed Mkomani Ward MCA Yahya Ahmed Shee alias Basode for the heckling of Ruto and his brigade in Lamu.
The Lamu senator castigated Basode claiming that he had marshaled his supporters to invade Ruto’s rally anc cause chaos.
“Hao ambao wanapiga kelele ni watu wa Basode, watu wa Basode hamtutishii. Watu wa ODM hamtutishii. Hio ni shauri yenu, sisi tumekuja hapa kwa sababu ya naibu wa rais hustler. Mimi nawaambia hivi, mambo ya ODM shauri yenu. Hapa tunaamua ni UDA na UDA tutatembea pamoja (those who are heckling are Basode’s supporters, Bosode’s supporters don’t scare us. ODM supporters don’t scare us. That’s your own problem, we have come here because of the deputy president. Am telling you this, ODM issues is your own problem),” Lamu senator Loitiptip ranted while addressing the crowd.
ODM is the dominant political party in the Coast, the region has overwhelmingly voted for Raila in the past elections and Ruto is facing an uphill task to sway the region to support him.
Ruto was accompanied by politicians such as Rigathe Gachagua, Kimani Inchungwa, Mohamed Ali, Aisha Jumwa and other vocal politicians from the region during his tour of Lamu.
