An American Journalist identified as Ben Terry had a difficult day on Tuesday after Kenya experienced a power outage.
Terry, who works for KPLC-TV 7 in Louisiana, noticed that he started having a lot of engagement from Twitter users mostly from Kenya.
Kenyans had been angered by the lack of power and sought to air their concerns to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company(KPLC) , however some of them ended up on the wrong timeline.
Apparently, Kenyans who reached out to him assumed that he was a boss or an employee at the power company.
Due to the overwhelming number of tweets, Terry was forced to address the issue distancing himself from the power company.
“I just gained several Twitter followers from Kenya over the past 24 hours. Just so you know, I am not associated with the KPLC that is Kenya Power and Light Company for future reference. However, I hope you do like weather updates for Southwest Louisiana. Welcome aboard,” he said.
He further explained why the TV station he works for used the KPLC acronym.
“We are a TV station in the United States. All TV stations in America west of the Mississippi River begin with the letter “K.” The other letters stand for Port of Lake Charles (PLC). It’s just coincidence it’s the same acronym as Kenya Power and Light. No affiliation,” the journalist said.
Another follower suggested that he buys the company but he said that he has no interest in owning a power company.
“Oh no I wish I could help you but I have no interest in buying a power company,” he responded.
In a separate tweet Terry said that they had a similar encounter for weeks after Louisiana was struck by a hurricane
“Hakuna Matata! Our power was out for weeks in Louisiana after Hurricane Laura. Hopefully it is restored soon in Kenya!” he said.
