Investigations into the Ongata Rongai robbery incident that was captured on CCTV on Sunday at 2 am are still going on to ensure that all the suspects are brought.
The suspects, five in number and armed with machetes, Ak-47 rifle and pistols, ambushed a woman as she entered into her compound, vandalized her car before leading her to the house where they stole more valuables, with all the actions being captured.
They further forced her to send over Kshs200,000 from her accounts to another of their accomplice, believed to be an Mpesa agent.
So far detectives have been able to recover several items believed to have been stolen during the home invasion that shocked the nation.
“As Police Officers continue to work around the clock to investigate and bring to book all the thugs who robbed a family in Ongata Rongai, more recoveries have been made. In addition to earlier recoveries made, including one pistol and items of clothing, household electronic appliances have also been recovered,” the National Police service said in a statement on social media.
NPS further expressed gratitude to the members of the public for cooperating with police officers in the investigations.
“We salute the officers involved in the operation for their diligence and commitment to the task. We also appreciate members of the public for cooperating with law enforcement in the course of investigations,” the statement further read.
Four suspects have been arrested following the incident and will be arraigned in court sooner or later.
““To date, four suspects have been apprehended and aiding police with further investigation. So far, they are cooperating, and they shall be arraigned in court as per the law. In due course of the investigation, detectives have recovered one pistol made by Browning, some cash money proceeds of the robbery and items of clothing worn by the robbers on that fateful night,” police spokesperson Bruno Shioso said in a statement.
The mastermind behind the Rongai robbery incident is said to be a rogue police officer and is yet to be arrested as well as one more thug. The identities of those arrested have also been revealed. They include; 24-year-old Robert Kimani Irungu, from Kware in Ongata Rongai, Jane Achieng Ochieng from Kibera and John Ochieng Oranja from Bombolulu Kibera, both aged 21
