President Uhuru Kenyatta bragged that his government has achieved more development since his deputy William Ruto was reduced to a mere spectator in his government.
Uhuru cut Ruto down to size in January 2019 when he appointed Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as a super minister to oversee all government projects.
The elevation of Matiang’i with supervisory roles across government whittled down Ruto’s influence turning him to a mere spectator in government.
Uhuru delegated the powers to Matiang’i in an Executive Order that for the first time handed a CS an expansive responsibility to chair and coordinate government development programmes and projects.
In his new role, Matiang’i chairs a key committee on the implementation of development programmes, whose membership includes all Cabinet secretaries, the Attorney General and Head of the Public Service.
Ruto has been locked out of Cabinet meets at least twice as his relationship with the president deteriorates by the day.
In February this year, Uhuru called out Ruto for criticizing the government for its failures while at the same time taking credit for its successes.
“On the one hand, you criticize the government and on the other, you want to say you have done such and such as government. How many governments are there? If you want to work with us, please do. If you want to criticize, get out,” the President said in Dagoretti South, Nairobi during a rally.
Fast forward to October 20th 2021, President Uhuru threw Ruto under the bus and shamed him during the Mashujaa celebration in Kirinyaga County.
In his speech, Uhuru bragged that his government had achieved more in terms of development since Ruto was isolated in government.
The president shamed the DP by parading second term development and by showing how resources can be taken to the people in a structured way.
Uhuru mentioned developments and achievements he had accomplished alone without Ruto in his government.
