President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday left Kisumu residents in stitches after making a joke that he was considering to have a wife from the lakeside city.
“Nilikuwa naambia Raila hapa jameni… Sijui kama mama nyumbani ataniruhusu… Akiniruhusu labda naweza kupata mtu ambaye atakuwa ananitengenezea mambo yangu pande hii…” the joked amid laughter.
Translating to: “I was telling Raila: I don’t know whether my wife will allow me to get another woman to look after my interest in the region.”
“Ndio tuwe tukitembea ukijua kuna mahali utakuwa unakula ugali ama namna gani (So that we walk knowing there’s a place we can be going to eat ugali)?”
In his speech in Kisumu, the President also reiterated that the handshake between him and ODM leader Raila Odinga has given him great peace.
President Uhuru noted that since the handshake the country witnessed tremendous development as opposed to what would have happened before the handshake.
Uhuru praised Raila for proving to be a true statesman who does not seek selfish gains but the good of the country as a whole.

Before the President also directed Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to ensure Kisumu-Mamboleo-Chemelil-Muhoroni road is completed in four months.
“We are constructing an international stadium here in Mamboleo and this type of road should not be leading to such a stadium,” he said.
“I will be coming here in April next year and this should be completed by then.”
