From the tests conducted on Friday, two Cabinet Secretaries and a senior government are among the high profile Kenyans who tested positive for Covid-19.
The three high profile people have been informed of their status have been advised to embrace home-based care in strict adherence to the Ministry of Health guidelines.
“We can confirm that two Cabinet Secretaries and senior government officials have tested positive,” a source who sought anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter told a local daily.
The sources added that the trio is asymptomatic and they have been advised to be kept on home-based care as they are monitored.
This comes at a time when there has been concern over the behavior of some government officials and politicians who have been flouting health guidelines.
With the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in state institutions, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua is said to have written to Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Heads of Parastatal to inform him on the coronavirus situation in their departments and the measures they have taken to curb the spread.
“I am aware of Kinyua’s memo asking heads of department to furnish his office with the list of staff who have tested for coronavirus, their results and how they are being managed,” another source told the People Daily who also noted that the country is likely to witness a spike in infection among prominent people.

More government officials are expected to undergo the testing as others are waiting for their results.
The news about the government officials contracting the coronavirus came at a time the Covid-19 situation continues to rise in the country, with 603 new cases being registered yesterday.
In his statement to the newsroom, health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that the 603 cases recorded yesterday were obtained from 5724 samples tested.
“We have now 13,353 confirmed cases while our accumulative samples tested has risen to 243,887,” said CS Kagwe.
