Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has rejected the report by the National Dialogue Committee.
In a brief statement she shared on X, the veteran politician termed the report problematic and unacceptable, adding that she will give a detailed statement on the same later.
“I find the NADCO report troubling, problematic and unacceptable. A more detailed statement loading in the coming week,” she wrote.
In an earlier statement, Karua had warned that she would reject the report if it doesn’t address several key issues such as cost of living.
“Any purported agreement that does not immediately impact on the cost of living, electoral justice and respect for multiparty democracy is a fraud on the people and must be rejected,” she said on November 25.
The report was released a week ago following discussion between 10 members, both from the government and opposition.
The committee came up with recommendations on various issues affecting the country which include economic recovery strategy, cost of living and matters of elections but was unable to reach a consensus on several proposals
“The Committee was unable to reach a consensus on several other proposals on the matter of cost of living, including the reduction of VAT on fuel from 16% to 8%, and scrapping of the housing levy, the twin issues in the Finance Act 2023,” the report revealed.
On Thursday, Opposition leader Raila Odinga took a swipe the government for rejecting azimio’s recommendations that were meant to address the issues affecting Kenyans.
“Kalonzo asked me what we should because they have refused this. I told Kalonzo Musyoka to let them be because they are sick and don’t want medication. Let them just die. They started by importing, maize, sugar, rice, and even edible oil which are passing through the port without taxation but the cost of living has not come down. Sh 16 billion has been lost through such imports. Now they want to do the same with fuel importation,” he said while in Machakos.
