Trouble In Paradise! IEBC Commissioners Reject Presidential Results That Chebukati Is Set To Announce

Date:

Four IEBC commissioners have distanced themselves from presidential results that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati is set to announce.

In a press briefing at Serena Hotel, the commissioners, led by Chebukati’s deputy Juliana Cherera, the commissioners said that they are not part of the results because of the opaque nature in which the last phase of the general election was conducted.

“We have conducted the 2022 General Election in the most effective and efficient manner. We have ensured that we have improved the standards and consistently communicated what is happening. We have partnered with all stakeholders and we say it for a fact that as a commission we have done a good job but some things need to be put out there.

“As you can see, the four of us are here and not at Bomas where the result is going to be announced because of the opaque nature of how this phase has been handled. We therefore cannot take ownership on the result that is going to be announced.…we have an open door that people can go to court and because of the same we urge Kenyans to be peaceful because the rule of the law is going to prevail,” Cherera said in her statement.

The other commissioners present at the press briefing include; Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyangaya, and Irene Masit.

Meanwhile, Bomas of Kenya was turned into a battleground when IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati showed up in order to announce the winner of the presidential elections.

Azimio leaders led by Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina confronted Chebukati leading to chaos.

The situation was however immediately contained by the tight security at the venue. Chebukati is set to announce the results any time from now.
