Deputy president William Samoei Ruto on Saturday displayed passion for tribalism after he asked the Mt. Kenya voters to back their own instead of rallying behind the opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Ruto who was speaking in Kiambu county on Saturday took a swipe at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader for allegedly being imposed on the region.
According to Ruto as reported by a local daily, the DP in a tribal voice argued that given its strength, Mt. The Kenya region has the capacity to unite and come up with one of their own for the presidency.
He made reference to the past elections in 2013 and 2017 when Mt. Kenya resolved to unite and rally behind him and president Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta.
“Out of the eight million voters in Mt. Kenya, you want to tell us that we do not have one among us who we can support to become president to the extent they have to bring us Raila? We should not wait to be given Raila but plan on our own.” He said in Thika.
“We know the people of Kiambu have planned themselves with the UDA party and come next year, we are forming a government so that we can continue with our planned approach to implementing the big four agenda which had been interrupted by Raila through the handshake.” Added Ruto.
Following his sentiments of a community only backing their own, this is how Kenyans reacted:

“A whole deputy president advancing tribalism in broad-daylight? With Ruto’s “our own ” mentality, if he wins in 2022, i won’t be surprised if he supports a fellow Kalenjin in 2032 so that it fits into his “our own ” mentality/narrative. This is a man who believes that power should not be shared by other tribes. No wonder he was mad when president Uhuru said that other communities should be supported.”
“You see what I have been telling you? The man keeps hiding behind the hustler narrative while in the back of his mind he wants Mt. Kenya to elect him because he is one of their own. We cannot allow such tribal leaders to lead a serious nation like Kenya. I would understand if Sudi made those sentiments in his village, not someone who wants to be president. I hope Kenyans kick him out with his tribal mind.”
“Why is this man obsessed with creating a division by running a hate narrative against Raila Odinga? Why can’t he let the Mt. Kenya people to decide independently without running a hate narrative of “our own”? This man wants to bring war and should be taken back to the ICCC ASAP before Kenya burns.” Its high time he realized that Kenya is one nation without those “our own” agendas he is driving. Woe unto you who will be campaigning in Rift Valley for the presidential seat because he will go back and warn them that they should only choose “their own.”
“Kenya is past tribal leaders like Ruto who are still obsessed with “our own” narratives. Tell me what this is if not warmongering.”
